Autorun Data Load:Windows XP || Windows Vista || Windows 7***The reality of Auto-Run: Not every computer is the same, operating systems differ, applications installed differ, hardware configurations differ, user rights and privileges differ - so not every auto run program can be expected to run the exact same way.Overview: What is Autorun? Autorun, simply put, is a file loaded on the USB Drive that tells the USB Drive what to do when plugged in. Most of us have encountered this file before but did not know it. Real-life example: You just went to the store and purchased a brand new Printer. First you take out the printer and get all the cables hooked up. Next you grab the Installation CD and put it in your computer. As soon as you put in the CD a screen pop's up "Thank you for purchasing this printer. Please click NEXT to continue the installation.... As soon as you entered the CD the Autorun file kicked in and told the computer to show you the "Thank you " message. However, in this day and age USB Devices are much more popular then CD's therefore we do our best to incorporate this same Autorun method with USB Drives. The Autorun file has lost much of it's power in the new OS's (Operating Systems), since auto-executing files has a big impact on system security. However, it is still useful and does a good job informing users that there is data pre-loaded on the USB Drive. Windows XP Windows XP while outdated is still widely used by millions of users. Therefore, we do have Autoruns specifically focused for XP users. In XP we have the ability to auto-execute files. This means that if you have a video file on the drive, we can set it up so that it automatically starts playing as soon as the drive is plugged in. This ensures the user will see the video you want them to see rather then skipping it and disregarding the marketing material you worked so hard on putting together. While we can auto-execute many files, there are also a number of files we cannot auto-execute. For best results please provide your Sales Rep with the data you want on your drives and we will test it to make sure that it compatible with auto-execution. Windows Vista & Windows 7 Windows Vista and Windows 7 do NOT support auto-execution. Instead they offer a different solution using the Windows Dialog Box. Instead of automatically executing whatever the autorun wants, Vista and 7 pop-up a dialog box that gives the user choices on how to proceed. While we cannot automatically start playing a video file, we can let the customer know that a video file is present and that they should take a look at it. Take a look below to see how the Autorun file can be used to reach clients in Vista and Windows 7. ***Please contact your Sales Rep for more information on data pre-loads. |
